About Luis Cañas Reserva

Luis Cañas Reserva is a red wine from La Rioja produced by Bodegas Luis Cañas. It is a blend of Tempranillo (95%) and Graciano (5%).

The grapes used to make this wine comes from vineyards that are 40 years old. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out for three weeks at a temperature of 28º.

Subsequently aging takes place in barrels, two-year-old French oak (70%) and American (30%) oak. Luis Cañas Reserva is aged for 18 months in the barrel and in the bottle for another 18 before marketing.

Bodegas Luis Cañas highlights the idea that a good wine can only come from good grapes. Their daily work seeks to create the highest quality wines with the aim of finding the ever perfect wine.

Luis Cañas Reserva 2018 exhibits an alluring deep ruby hue. On the nose, it is notable for its intensity and warmth, with aromas of dark fruits such as plums and blackberries, complemented by hints of chocolate and cocoa. The influence of the barrel is evident through nuances of toasted wood and spicy touches. On the palate, it is a powerful and well-structured wine, with a concentrated profile that accentuates its character. A red wine that invites one to savour its complexity.

The Luis Cañas Reserva 2017 beckons us to explore its subtly spiced character and seamlessly integrated maturity. Upon tasting, there unfolds a tapestry of aromas featuring black fruits such as plums and blackberries, interwoven with hints of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, one encounters a robust yet approachable structure, with velvety tannins and a depth of concentration that renders it unforgettable. This red wine exhibits a harmony of strength and finesse, perfectly suited for connoisseurs who value understatement in their wine's expression.
2016

Luis Cañas Reserva 2016 is a ruby-red wine with a deep hue. On the nose, it is pleasant and subtle, with complex aromas reminiscent of fine woods, ripe fruit such as plums and cherries, and a hint of coffee. On the palate, it is oily, rounded, and well-structured, with juicy tannins. Spicy nuances of cinnamon and notes of ripe black fruit and liquorice stick stand out. Its finish is very long and smooth.                       
2010 Silky, bulky, cool. Polished with well integrated tannins. Notes of ripe red fruit and nuances of liquor appear in the aftertaste.

2009 Fresh and smooth on the palate. Lots of volume and well-integrated, polised tannins. An aftertaste of ripe red fruit and touches of liqueur give this wine a long finish.

2006 In the mouth, it is a soft, fresh and powerful red wine. It has volume and integrated and polished tannins, like its acidity. At the aftertaste, touches of very ripe red fruits and nuances of liquor which makes it a wine with a long memory.

Intense cherry red colour with maroon edges. Clean and bright. Medium-high robe and thin tear.

Intense aromas, direct, with a pleasant complexity. Intense red fruit, which is ripe, fleshy and expressive, with touches of alcohol mixed with fine toasted hints and spicy and sweet spices due to its ageing in wood barrels. Subtle touches of coffee. Intense balsamic background.
2005 Elegant, serious, complex and deep wine with a long, fresh, lively, very tasty and full- bodied mid palate. The notes of ripe fruit are noticed again nuanced by some toasted and spicy hints. It shows well-integrated tannins and an excellent acidity. It has a long and persistent finish with fruity scents.

Intense cherry colour with garnet edges. Clean and bright wine with a medium-high robe and thin tears.

Intense and frank aromas, with a nice complexity. Its intense notes of ripe red fruit with hints of liqueur are mixed with refined creamy roasted aromas and notes of spices provided during its ageing in barrels. A subtle hint of coffee is also noticed on its intense balsamic background.
2004 The palate is soft, cool and with nerve. It has volume and  well integrated and polished tannins. In the aftertaste hints reappear very ripe red fruit and nuances of liqueur that makes a wine a long finish. A wine with more complexity than his younger brother Luis Cañas Crianza.

2003 In the mouth it is smooth, cool and nerve. It has volume and is well integrated tannins and polished. In the aftertaste is shown hints of very ripe red fruit and nuances of liqueur that makes a wine that is long remembered. We suggest to taste a 18 º C.
