Mar de Frades Brut Nature is a lemony golden yellow sparkling wine that offers very varietal aromas of white fruits on the nose, accompanied by balsamic nuances (eucalyptus) over a background of seawater, where notes of toasted bread and almond shells also appear, a product of the aging process. The palate is creamy and refreshing, reaffirming the variety’s typical fruity notes. A very pleasant sparkling wine.

About Mar de Frades Brut Nature

Mar de Frades is in a league of its own in Galicia (Spain) when it comes to Albariño winemaking. The name of the winery, Mar de Frades, comes from a Galician term meaning “Sea of Friars”, a point at the mouth of the Umia River where pilgrims used to gather to continue their journey to Santiago de Compostela.
 
This seafront site is also home to the vineyards belonging to the Mar de Frades winery, whose story has unravelled almost in parallel to that of the D.O. Rías Baixas. They specialise in making Albariño wines with an Atlantic character and a lot of personality.
 
Not content with producing some of the most renowned Albariño wines from the Rías Baixas, Mar de Frades has gone one step further and created Mar de Frades Brut Nature, a 100% Albariño sparkling wine made using the champenoise method, presenting us with the most Atlantic and refreshing side of Galicia’s leading variety.
 
To make this wine, the must ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Once the first fermentation has finished, the thick lees are removed and only the fine lees are left for the wine to rest in contact with them for more than a year. A blend of wines from previous years is made and a base wine is then prepared ready for the second fermentation in the bottle and in contact with the fine lees, which lasts for about 12 months.
 
The resulting sparkling wine is disgorged and left to settle for a further three months in the cellar before being released for sale.
 
Mar de Frades Brut Nature is a pleasant surprise. A lively and creamy sparkling wine with an Atlantic character that offers us the most sparkling and fresh side of the Albariño variety.
