About Alba Abiega Sin Prisas

Descending from the executive ranks at Tesla to return to Spain and start anew in the countryside is not a decision made in haste. In 2020, amidst a personal turning point, Alba Abiega chooses to pause and look in a different direction. She purchases and renovates an old house in Asturias, an Indian-style residence from 1912 that had witnessed other lives before. There, amidst lengthy renovations, dust, and waiting, a very simple idea begins to take shape: doing things without rushing.

From this perception of time emerges Alba Abiega Sin Prisas. The project is based in Olmedillo de Roa, at the heart of Ribera del Duero, a region where the landscape appears serene, yet the climate is anything but. Dry summers, cold winters, and a marked thermal amplitude compel the vine to work tirelessly. The family vineyards are situated at an elevation, above 825 metres. Here, maturation proceeds more slowly. And that, in reality, changes everything.

The vineyard, planted in the 1990s, is certified organic. Without herbicides or synthetic products, with direct work on the soil and respect for its natural balance. The variety is 100% tempranillo (or tinta del país). Harvesting is done by hand. It is picked at the perfect moment, without haste to enter the winery.

In the winery, the grapes are meticulously selected before the process begins. A pre-fermentation maceration is conducted at a low temperature, meaning the grapes remain in contact with their skins for a time before fermenting, to preserve finer and fresher aromas. Alcoholic fermentation occurs naturally, where the sugars in the grapes are transformed into alcohol thanks to the fruit's own yeasts. Afterwards, the ageing lasts at least 12 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, sourced from cooperages like Boutes and Cadus. Finally, the wine is naturally clarified and bottled.

Sin Prisas is not about arriving sooner. It is about arriving well. It reflects a life decision translated into wine: to pause, observe, and work with tranquillity. Opening it is to embrace a different rhythm. A more human one.
