About Tagaro Verdazzo Vermentino
Who says that the avant-garde must be at odds with tradition? At Masseria Tagaro, tradition is not preserved as a museum piece. It is worked upon. It is debated. It is adapted. And, above all, it is combined with tools that did not exist a generation ago. Winery technology, process control, precision in every decision. Not to alter what the grape is, but to prevent it from being lost along the way.
From this balance emerges Tagaro Verdazzo Vermentino. A wine that does not choose between past and future, because it understands that both are part of the same narrative.
From Puglia, in the south of Italy, the landscape of the Valle d’Itria unfolds amidst gentle hills, dry stone walls, and a light that seems to linger longer than necessary. The climate is Mediterranean, dry and bright, with long summers where the grape ripens intensely. Breezes from the maritime surroundings temper this excess of sun and help preserve the fruit's natural freshness. The soils, dominated by limestone with clay presence, compel the vine to seek depth. There is no excess fertility here. There is forced balance, and that translates into character.
Tagaro Verdazzo Vermentino is crafted from vermentino, a white variety that finds its natural expression in the Mediterranean. The harvest is conducted at the precise moment of ripeness, aiming to preserve the aromatic tension.
Then, in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed to extract only the clearest must. This first juice, the most delicate, best reflects the variety. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, a technical choice that allows the fruit expression to remain intact. Subsequently, the wine remains on its fine lees for 4 months. Finally, it is respectfully clarified and bottled, retaining all the freshness of the ensemble.
Any excuse is good to uncork Tagaro Verdazzo Vermentino. A wine that reminds you that tradition can also have a future.
